About Letterfold
Letterfold is an independent journal about the physical letter — the fold, the weight of the stock, the seal, and the etiquette of writing someone back. We don't sell paper or stationery. We write about the habit of using them.
How this started
Letterfold grew out of a shared notebook three friends kept while mailing each other during a long stretch of living in different cities. Somewhere around the fortieth letter, the notes about *how* we were writing — the fold, the paper, the timing of a reply — became more interesting than the letters themselves. The journal is what's left of that notebook, tidied up and made public.
Who writes it
Nora Kessling
Handles most of the material entries — paper, ink, folds — and keeps the archive of correspondence samples the site draws on.
Femi Adeyemi
Writes on etiquette and timing — the postscript, the reply window, the small unwritten rules of writing someone back.
Wren Okonkwo-Bell
Builds and maintains the companion app, and writes the occasional note on how people actually use it.
Alden Marsh
Reads everything twice before it goes up, and keeps the glossary honest about where terms actually come from.
What we cover, and what we don't
Every entry on Letterfold is about the physical mechanics or etiquette of written correspondence: paper, folding, sealing, ink, envelopes, and the timing and manner of replying. We do not review or sell specific stationery brands, and we do not publish sponsored posts. If a piece mentions a material or technique, it's because it's relevant to the fold or the seal being discussed — not an endorsement.
Content policy
- Every article is written for this site — nothing is copied or lightly rewritten from elsewhere.
- We correct factual errors openly; a note is added to the bottom of the entry when something is fixed.
- We don't accept payment in exchange for coverage of a product, brand, or technique.
- Reader mail and corrections are welcome and read by an actual editor, not a queue.
- Reply Tray is covered on the same editorial terms as everything else on the site.
